My computer won’t start
There could be a number of reasons for this. Firstly, just check that all plugs are firmly inserted into the computer and the power point. This sounds silly but it’s easy to dislodge cords. After doing this if the screen is still blank and the fan is working then the problem isn’t the power unit. It could be the video card or the mother board. This problem will require an onsite visit and depending on the solution may need to be repaired in our workshop. The first thing we’ll do is back-up your computer to ensure all data is safe.
My screen is blank
Firstly check the monitor is plugged into the power point as it is easy to dislodge this. Could be one of a few problems and all should be attended to by a professional as the screen is a very delicate piece of equipment. We’ll be able to diagnose the problem quickly so you know where things stand as soon as possible.
My computer freezes
This can be a tricky one to diagnose and is a matter of eliminating certain problems to get to the heart of the issue. It’s a problem that is more common on Windows computers, mostly because most viruses are targeted at Windows operating systems.
My computer is slow
A new computer is configured to run properly. After adding and deleting software it will become less efficient as the default settings change over time and there are too many operating programs running in the background. Basically your computer’s processing capacity is being over consumed. We will run a diagnostic tool on your computer to determine if this is the problem for its slow performance and will then be able to advise options for improving its performance.
Increasing the capacity of the processing unit is the first thing to review. This can be done by addressing a few elements including the registry, reviewing hidden programs that start up each time your computer starts, checking for viruses and reviewing your internet connection. If this doesn’t achieve what you want then you can consider upgrading your RAM.
My computer has a virus
Viruses are one of the most common causes of computer problems, especially home computers. Spyware, trojans and other malware can subtly and easily attack your system if you don’t have adequate protection. Viruses don’t only attack your PC via incoming emails, they can also get you when accessing infected internet sites.
Using a suite of virus removal tools we will thoroughly scan your computer to find the malware. Virus removal requires some degree of ‘work’ on a computer however, if the virus is not removed promptly it can widely infect your computer causing severe damage. In most circumstances a severely damaged computer will need to be rebuilt. If this is the case we will requote on the repair before progressing.
We will also assess your level of anti-virus protection and make recommendations for upgrading if we feel it’s needed.
My computer crashes
We assume you mean your computer has stopped performing and you have had to restart more than once. We’ll discuss with you the behaviour associated with the crashes, discuss anything you’ve done to the computer recently and then review reported errors to determine the cause of the crashes.
My printer won’t work
This is something we can initially review through our remote access service to establish if the connection has been lost. Of course, just check the printer cords are all plugged in properly. If you’ve made any changes to the computer recently it may have affected the installation. Printer problems are not uncommon.
I can’t get onto the internet
We’ll need to know how many computers you have in the home/home office and check out your modem – it may not be compatible for multiple computers to access the internet. Storm activity or malware may have affected the connection. We can diagnose the problem quickly.
